WSI Gets Cheeky in Paw Paw

[Paw Paw, MI]: Workforce Strategies, Inc., an award-winning staffing and recruiting firm, accelerates growth by establishing an office in Paw Paw, MI. Headquartered in Kalamazoo, this new office marks the seventh WSI location. The grand opening will take place on Thursday, August 27th where the company will also be hosting a job fair from 10 am – 2 pm.

The new office is located inside Cheeky Print Shop, a custom apparel and paper printing business, at 233 East Michigan Avenue. How are staffing and printing related, you may ask? Through a familial tie of its employees, of course. The owner of Cheeky Print Shop, Jeff Bohms, is the brother of WSI Director of Staffing Operations, Erica Bohms-Coon.

“This has nothing to do with sibling rivalry, I swear,” laughs Erica. “WSI has several employment opportunities throughout VanBuren County, and we identified Paw Paw as the ideal location to serve job seekers there, as well as Mattawan, Decatur, and Lawton. So when my brother offered the available space in his apparel shop, we made shirt to jump on the opportunity.”

WSI Announces First Winner of Free Rent Referral Program

This Summer, Let WSI Staffing Pay Your Rent

[Grand Rapids, MI] – Earlier this summer, WSI – Workforce Strategies, Inc. (recently named a five-time winner of the Best & Brightest Companies to Work For in the Nation) launched their Free Rent Referral Program. Participants who refer friends and family to WSI are entered into a drawing for a chance to have their monthly rent expenses covered by the company.

“WSI has hundreds of job openings with great companies throughout Michigan, Indiana and Ohio,” says Steve Beebe, WSI Vice President. “With all the personal and financial hardship that COVID-19 has caused families, WSI wanted to offer up some additional support and incentives to our associates. We are excited about the opportunity to help people find work with great companies and have the opportunity for free rent as well!”

Drawings for winners occur on the first of every month, from August through October. The first winner of free rent is Yesenia Varela, an employee at Roskam Baking Company in Grand Rapids, MI. Yesenia’s career with WSI began on July 27, 2020, as a General Labor Associate on 3rd shift. Not even two months into her role, she moved up to a Machine Operator position. Following outstanding performance as a Machine Operator, Roskam has offered Yesenia a permanent position with the company.

“Yesenia was so excited and very thankful to be named our first winner of the Free Rent Referral program,” says Ana Post, WSI Grand Rapids Branch Manager. “The check was presented to her between a shift change so a lot of people were curious about the big check. Many stuck around to see who had won.”

On a personal level, Ana was just as excited as Yesenia. “It was so rewarding to be able to give back to an outstanding associate,” she said.

The Free Rent Referral program is open to all; entrants do not need to be a current WSI associate. The next winner will be drawn on/around September 1st, 2020. Complete details and a referral form can be found at https://www.wsitalent.com/rent.

WSI is Recognized as One of the Best and Brightest Companies to Work For® in the Nation

The Best and Brightest competition identifies and honors organizations that are committed to excellence in human resource practices and employee enrichment.

July 31, 2020 – Kalamazoo, Mich. The Best and Brightest Program provides the business community with the opportunity to gain recognition, showcase their best practices, and demonstrate why each of them would be an ideal place for employees to work. It is WSI’s honor to be recognized as a 2020 winner, making it our fifth consecutive year in the winner’s circle.

To be considered for the award, an independent research firm evaluates each company’s entry based on key measures such as Employee Education, Communication, Diversity and Inclusion, Work-Life Balance, and more. The Best and Brightest Assessment Reports are designed to aid employers in evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of their company function, employee engagement levels, and assist in identifying and eliminating potential areas of concern.

“My favorite part about participating in the Best and Brightest survey is the ability to gauge improvements year over year. It’s not about winning the award as much as it’s about seeing all of our employee’s hard work paying off,” says Lauren Rogalski, WSI Manager of Corporate Culture. “This year, we received the highest scores we’ve ever seen! It’s not to say there isn’t still work to be done, however, it shows that consistency and commitment to continuous improvement will truly create and foster an incredible workplace!”

Winners are pooled by the size of their company, with WSI being classified as a Small Business with under 100 internal employees. All companies, no matter their size, can be a Best and Brightest Company to Work For® resulting in an opportunity to gain recognition and showcase the high standards they have for employee satisfaction.

“Through the first half of 2020, the Best and Brightest Companies To Work For have demonstrated leadership and forward-thinking as they pivoted their business and workforce through Covid-19. As the conversation and focus has shifted, our Best and Brightest winning companies have also been a voice for important actions regarding Race. It is in these unique times, the Best and Brightest Companies To Work For excel and share their knowledge with others” said Jennifer Kluge, President and CEO, Best and Brightest Programs.

The Best and Brightest Companies to Work For in the Nation Winners will be honored during dual virtual Illuminate Business Summit weeks in October 2020 and February 2021.

Official Statement: COVID-19 and Your Workforce

WSI Staffing Blog - official statement covid19

As a valued client partner, we’d like to address the current COVID-19 epidemic. Below are facts about the virus, and general guidelines from the The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to help prevent workplace exposures to acute respiratory illnesses, including COVID-19.

CORONAVIRUS FACTS:
  • Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that are common in humans.
  • The virus that causes COVID-19 is spreading from person-to-person in China and some limited person-to-person transmission has been reported in countries outside China, including the United States. However, respiratory illnesses like seasonal influenza, are currently widespread in many US communities.
RECOMMENDED STRATEGIES FOR EMPLOYERS TO USE NOW:
  • Emphasize respiratory etiquette and hand hygiene by all employees.
  • Encourage sick employees to stay home until they are fever-free for at least 24 hours.
  • Ensure that your sick leave policies are flexible, non-punitive, and consistent with public health guidance. Be aware that employees may need to stay home to care for sick family members, too.
  • Do not require a healthcare provider’s note for employees who are sick with acute respiratory illness to validate their illness or to return to work.
  • Perform routine environmental cleaning and provide disposable cleaning wipes for employees to wipe down shared surfaces before use (doorknobs, desks, counters, keyboards, etc.)

For more information on COVID-19 and creating an Infectious Disease Outbreak Response Plan should the virus become widespread in our area, visit www.cdc.gov.

Sincerely,

Jeffrey C. O’Brien
President and CEO
